Free Mech Test Drive: Assault and Rocketeer

Free Mech Test Drive: Assault and Rocketeer

Attention, mech pilots! For a limited time, you can test drive both the Assault and the Rocketeer for free. Try before you buy! Best of all, any levels these mechs gain during the test drive will be saved, even if you don't unlock them before the end of the test drive!

The Assault is a versatile, medium mech with excellent mid-range firepower. Its Submachine Cannon remains remarkably accurate at max range, so open fire when you see the whites of their...well...anything. Its secondary weapon is your old friend, the TOW Rocket. Point. Shoot. Explode enemies. Its Weapons Coolant ability will prevent and remove heat buildup for a short period of time, giving you more uptime on all of your weapons.

The Rocketeer is a heavy mech that can provide long-range suppression. It comes standard with a Seeker and Hellfire Missiles. The Seeker delivers quick-firing missiles with built-in targeting, useful for rooting out snipers. The secondary weapon unleashes a volley of high damage missiles, and comes with a manual target lock. The Rocketeer's ability, Mobile Turret, converts your mech to heavy defense mode, allowing you to rain death down on foes as they curse you in chat.

Head to your Garage to test drive these mechs right now until February 5!

The Rocketeer's ability, Mobile Turret, converts your mech to passive-aggressive mode, allowing you to grumble at your foes as they snigger in chat.

Fixed that for you! :D
At least some new players will find out that the assault is the same as the crt and be able to save their credits on something else
I wanted to take the Rocketeer for a second test drive :(

Additionally and FYI, if you've gave any of these mechas a try before then you can not test that mech again. (Rocketeer). So, as it is now, it's 1 trial per mecha only.

What other mech could you possible try out the TOW on?

The current test drive actually started yesterday but it is a shorter interval than usual. This will get us back on our regular cadence of two weeks per test drive. :)
What dEd101 said. My son really wanted to play the rocketeer again. I can't believe you guys would not allow the "free to test drive" mechs be played by anyone and everyone. They still have their limitations...

And we want our pilots to be able to test drive mechs multiple times! This is being filed as a known issue and will be addressed.

This is very good news. Each patch/game change messes class balance quite a bit, server situation and players' skill changes drastically. So the ability to retest mech would be very handy.

The Rocketeer's ability, Mobile Turret, does not make you in any way faster than a standard turret, and only decreases the damage you take by 5% for the total loss of boost, dodge, jumping AND repair (and will, at the edge of splash damage, INCREASE the damage you take due to rounding errors) while your enemies laugh at you in chat.

FTFY.

It was one of the first mechs on trial when I started in the open beta. Needless to say I was completely useless and didn't understand the game mechanics nor tactics. Now I know a little more I'd like to give all the old trial mechs a bash again to see if I like them now.
Is it bad that a guy that mains a rocketeer fell off his chair reading the Rocketeer promotion especially the "Mobile Turret, converts your mech to heavy defense mode, allowing you to rain death down on foes as they curse you in chat." part?

If it's because of ironic laughter, then I guess it's alright.

Feels like false advertising. :P

As Scapes mentioned above, it looks like you will be able to test the Rocketeer again and that a bug fix should be in the works to help players that aren't able to test drive a mech more than once.

The main difference I know of between CR-T Recruit and Assault is that Assault comes with the SMG while the Recruit comes equipped with an assault rifle.
